A villager from Tshoboyi area in Gwanda District severely assaulted his neighbour's worker accusing him of having a love affair with his wife.

France Moyo (38) from Chief Mathe's area yesterday appeared before Gwanda magistrate Mr Arafat Kozanai facing a charge of assaulting his neighbour's domestic worker, Mr Kelvin Ncube (23).

Moyo pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine months in prison of which three months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Tshoboyi Primary School.
Moyo will start serving his sentence on Monday.

He will be working between 8am and 4pm from Monday to Friday.

In mitigation, Moyo told the court that he got angry when he found Mr Ncube with his wife.

"I found the complainant with my wife and my wife was busy helping him to put on a jacket. When I asked what was happening between the two, I did not get any response and this angered me a lot. As a result, I punched him," said Moyo.

The prosecutor, Mr Edward Ndlovu, told the court that on 12 August at about 8pm, Moyo found Mr Ncube with his wife at Tshoboyi Business Centre.

A misunderstanding ensued between Moyo and Mr Ncube as the former accused the latter of having a love affair with his wife.
Moyo manhandled Mr Ncube, threw him onto the ground and gave him a thorough beating.

Mr Ncube was later rescued by another villager, Mr Chalton Dube.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Moyo's arrest.
