A 65-year-old Gwanda man who stole packs of cigarettes worth $11 from a Supermarket has been fined $60.

Christopher Sibanda of Feba Farm in Gwanda District was convicted on his own plea by Matabeleland South provincial magistrate Mr Douglas Vakayi Chikwekwe. He was fined $60 or 30 days in prison.

He told the court that he wanted to smoke some of the cigarettes and sell the remainder.

On Monday at about 9am, Sibanda went into an OK Zimbabwe Supermarket and stole 20×5 boxes of Madison and 20×4 of Everest and put them in his pockets.

He proceeded to another shelf where he picked up some exercise books and paid for them at the till.

As he was going out of the supermarket, Mr Clement Nkala who was monitoring him on the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) stopped him.

He then searched him in the presence of another shop employee.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Sibanda's arrest.
