SA gold smuggler's 1.7kg loot forfeited by Zim government

A South African citizen who was arrested after being caught smuggling 1,682kg of gold worth US$67 000 to Zimbabwe has been fined $7000.
Humbulani Nemanashe (33) appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Ms Gloria Takundwa.
He was convicted of breaching Gold Trade and Customs and Excise Acts.
In the first count Nemanashe was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with an option of a $6000 fine and subsequently condemned to 1 month imprisonment in the second charge or pay a fine of $1000.
The gold was forfeited to state as part of the sentence.
Nemanashe was arrested by detectives from the police Border Control and Minerals Unit following a tip-off.
