A 24-year-old Gwanda man has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for stabbing his girlfriend accusing her of having many boyfriends.
Fisani Ndlovu, residing at Mafuku Village under Chief Mathema, appeared before Gwanda magistrate Arafat Kozanai yesterday, facing assault charges after he stabbed his girlfriend Matron Ncube (19) once with a knife in the lower jaw.
He was convicted and sentenced to nine months in jail.
However, Ndlovu will spend an effective six months in prison after three months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
Prosecutor Alexander Moyo said on July 12 at around 7am, Ndlovu approached Ncube at Makwe business centre where she is employed as a shopkeeper.
A misunderstanding rose between the two after Ndlovu accused Ncube of having many boyfriends and threatened to assault her.
On the same day at around 6pm, Ndlovu approached Ncube holding a knife and stabbed her once in the lower jaw resulting in her sustaining a deep cut.
He fled from the scene and the matter was reported at Makwe police, leading to his arrest.
Ncube was referred to hospital for treatment.
A medical report confirmed that Ncube sustained serious injuries.
