Man bombs rival suitor's hut with dynamite

AN EMPLOYEE at Serious Mine Cleremont in Fort Rixon, Matabeleland South, allegedly ran amok and bombed his colleague's residence with dynamite after he found him with his girlfriend.

This was heard by Bulawayo magistrate Takundwa Witness Mtetwa when Nkosiyazi Sibanda (20) appeared before him to answer a charge attempted murder.

Sibanda was not asked to plead to the charge and the magistrate remanded him in custody to October 9 for trial.

The court heard that on August 17 this year at 12 midnight, Sibanda went to the complainant, Kwanele Maphosa's residence at Mupositori's compound, in the mine premises.

Maphosa is also an employee at the mine where Sibanda works.

It is the State case that Sibanda found Maphosa with his girlfriend in the hut.

He allegedly asked him what he was doing with his girlfriend.

He then called out his girlfriend whose name was not disclosed in court papers, threatening to stab her if she ignored his call.

Sibanda went away with his girlfriend whom he left at her home before going to collect the dynamite and matches from his residence.

Sibanda allegedly went with the explosives to Maphosa's place where on arrival he lit the matches and ignited the dynamite before allegedly throwing it inside Maphosa's hut.

Maphosa, who was inside the hut managed to escape unhurt, but the dynamite exploded inside the hut damaging property worth $105 and the hut.

Maphosa made a report to the police, leading to the arrest of Sibanda.
