Woman gives birth, kills the infant

A woman from Rugare Village in Fort Rixon who gave birth in the bush before killing the infant and burying it has been nabbed.
Sharai Moyo, 25, yesterday appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove facing infanticide charges.
Moyo was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to October 16.
Allegations by the State are that on October 4 at around 12pm, heavily pregnant Moyo left her home and headed 300 metres into a bush.
Alone in the bush, the court was told, Moyo gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. For a motive not mentioned in court, she smothered the infant using her right leg until the infant died.
Moyo reportedly took the lifeless body of her infant and threw it into a nearby hole and covered the shallow grave with soil before placing a big stone on top.
The crime was later discovered on the same day at around 4pm by the accused's daughter-in-law who had earlier on smelt a rat when she approached the homestead soon after committing the crime.
