Man assault rival suitor over a woman, fined $100

A 37-year-old Gwanda man was ordered to pay a fine of $100 for assaulting a rival suitor over a woman.

Newman Hlatshwayo of Mayezani area under Chief Mathema pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Arafat Kozanai facing assault charges.

In addition to the fine, Hlatshwayo was also handed a 30-day sentence which were conditionally suspended for five years.

Charges against Hlatshwayo are that on September 26 at around 8pm, Thembinkosi Moyo (44) had a misunderstanding with his ex-wife Bongani Siziba, the owner of Sally 20 Mine, over condoms.

This did not go down well with Hlatshwayo, Siziba's current boyfriend, and he struck Moyo with a metal bar once on the head.

Moyo sustained injuries on the head and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Hlatshwayo's arrest.

In his defence, Hlatshwayo said Moyo had a problem with him because he is in love with his ex-wife Siziba.
