A MBERENGWA man has gone into hiding after allegedly torching a bedroom hut belonging to his wife's lover in a suspected case of attempted arson.

Albert Ngwenya of Jordan Village under Chief Mtevaidze is said to have been disappointed by the delays of the traditional court in coming up with a ruling on the matter of his wife's suspected adulterous affair.

Ngwenya then decided to take the law into his own hands and attempted to kill his wife's suspected boyfriend by torching his bedroom hut.

Chief Mtevaidze yesterday confirmed receiving a case of alleged adultery where Ngwenya was accusing a fellow villager, Thompson Ndoro, of having an extramarital affair with his wife.

He said he has since handed over the matter to the police after Ngwenya allegedly set ablaze Ndoro's bedroom hut as he felt the traditional court was taking its time to address the matter.

Chief Mtevaidze said: "The police are now handling the case after Ndoro reported the matter to the police to the effect that Ngwenya torched his bedroom hut and destroyed his property. Ndoro was not at his homestead when the incident occurred on Tuesday but I understand police are hunting for Ngwenya who has since gone into hiding,"

The traditional leader said Ngwenya twice found Ndoro in his matrimonial bedroom with his wife and the matter was due to appear before his traditional court next week.

Police in Mberengwa yesterday confirmed the incident and said they were still hunting for Ngwenya in connection with the suspected arson case.

The police appealed to members of the public to assist with information that can help them arrest Ngwenya.
