A Dete man, in Matabeleland North, is on the run after brutally stabbing his wife to death on Christmas day.

Kelvin Ngwenya (25) allegedly stabbed Naomi Dube (24) twice, once on the back of her head and on the neck.

The police spokesperson for Matabeleland North, Assistant Inspector, Siphiwe Makonese, confirmed Dube's death.

Neighbours said Ngwenya was walking from Dete Business Centre at around 11 pm with his wife when they started quarreling.

They said they later head the woman screaming and rushed to investigate.

They told police that they found Dube, gasping for breath, with blood gushing from her neck and a gaping wound at the back of her head.

They said Ngwenya had already fled from the scene.

However, Ast Insp Makonese said Dube was stabbed once.

"Ngwenya drew a knife and stabbed his wife once on the back of her head. Dube screamed and some people heard the screams and rushed to the scene but found her already dead."

She said a report was made at Dete Police Station and that the accused was on the run.
