Man marries own sister, have a baby
17 Jan 2014 at 08:26hrs | Views
Two siblings in Gokwe South's Chadakufa Village are allegedly living as husband and wife in a relationship that has produced a baby and scandalised the rural community, the Sunday News reported.
Mr Titus Gwatidzo and Miss Suzanne Gwatidzo are said to have been living in virtual seclusion from the rest of the community ever since their mother passed away in 2010.
The couple keeps to itself and publicly deny that their relationship has crossed the thick line between sibling love and incest.
Chadakufa villagers allege that Mr Gwatidzo does not want to see men talking to his sister and threatens whoever dares try to propose love to her while Miss Gwatidzo has also been turning down all men who approach her without hesitation.
In 2012 the rumour mill went on overdrive when Miss Gwatidzo fell pregnant. Village dwellers came to the conclusion that Mr Gwatidzo impregnated his sister when Miss Gwatidzo did not name anyone in the village and neighbouring villages as the man responsible for the pregnancy.
The villagers dismissed all uncertainties that Mr Gwatidzo might not be the father when Miss Gwatidzo gave birth in 2013 to a baby (name withheld) who is a dead ringer for Mr Gwatidzo.
On Monday Mr Lazarus Gwatidzo, the sibling's 50-year-old uncle, spoke of his dismay and embarrassment. He told Sunday News that he feared that his nephew and niece were in an incestuous relationship.
A villager, who requested anonymity, said while villagers were sure that Mr Gwatidzo and Miss Gwatidzo were sleeping together and have a child, they could not report the case to the police because they have no evidence.
Chief Njelele refused to be interviewed about the issue.
"I have since ceased talking to the media about stories that paint Gokwe in bad light. A lot of stories that have made us look like an uncivilised society have been published in the past and they have made Gokwe look like a place where all kinds of bizarre things happen. I admit a lot of weird things happen but they don't happen in Gokwe alone. Ask me about positive things that are happening in Gokwe and I will gladly answer you," Chief Njelele said.
Mr Gwatidzo denied that he was sleeping with his sister and has since refused to talk about the baby.
