A Bulilima man, 34, allegedly broke into the house of his 80-year-old neighbour during the night and raped her twice as punishment for stealing his traditional stick.
Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philimon, heard how Isaiah Ncube of Nyele area forced his way into the complainant's bedroom while wearing a short only.
He found the complainant who was alone at her homestead wearing a night dress. Ncube demanded his traditional stick which he claimed she stole from his house.
A misunderstanding arose between them and Ncube pushed the complainant onto her bed and swore to teach her a lesson.
He undressed her and raped her once and ran away from the house. He returned about 30 minutes later where he raped the complainant for the second time. The complainant tried to fight back but to no avail as the accused person overpowered her.
She also screamed in an attempt to alert neighbours but with no luck. Prosecuting, Mr Paul Mpofu, told the court that Ncube raped the senior citizen on 22 January last year.
"He accused the complainant of taking his medium stick which brought him luck and ordered her to give it back. The complainant did not answer and this enraged Ncube who punched the complainant once and swore to punish her," Mr Mpofu said.
The complainant reported the matter to the area's village head, Mkhutshulwa Ngwenya, the following morning. A report was made to the police and the accused person was arrested on the same day.
Ncube was not asked to plead when he appeared in court for initial remand. Mr Philimon referred him to the Bulawayo Regional Court where he is expected to appear on 7 February.
