A man from Bulilima District who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend eight times and ripped her stomach open after she refused to have sex with him has appeared in court on initial remand.
Jabhisani Sibanda (39), of Ndolwane area appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philimoni, facing allegations of killing his girlfriend Doubt Nleya (33), the Sunday News reported.
He was advised to make a bail application with the High Court.
According to the court, Sibanda is suspected to have stabbed his girlfriend to death after she threw him out of the house and refused to have sex with him. Sibanda stabbed the deceased eight times on her body and ripped open her stomach.
She sustained two wounds on her stomach, two on her back, two on her left hand, one on her breast and another on her collar bone.
Sibanda is suspected to have fatally stabbed his girlfriend with a kitchen knife early this month and fled from the village. Members of the community last week ambushed Sibanda at his hiding place in Ndolwane area. He had been on the run for weeks.
He was found in possession of two knives.
On the day of the incident Sibanda pounced on Nleya and grabbed her as she tried to flee and stabbed her with a knife he was carrying.
The incident happened in full view of her employer's two children aged four and nine years. Nleya reportedly dumped Sibanda after discovering that he had a criminal record of theft and attempted murder.
Villagers who were alerted by the screams of the two children found her lying in a pool of blood with some of her intestines protruding while Sibanda had fled the scene.
The incident occurred on 19 January around 8am at Mafundi Sibanda's homestead in Ndolwane area, Bulilima District, where she was employed as a domestic worker.
