A fierce fight between two brothers from Gweru at a city club turned fatal when the other sibling was pummelled into submission and decided to terminate his life.
The deceased - identified by police as Rabson Chinembiri, 31 - of Mkoba 13, reportedly hanged himself on Friday after being involved in a fierce fight with his brother (name withheld).
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the two brothers were drinking beer at a nightclub in Mkoba 14 at around 10pm.
He said: "It has come to our knowledge that Rabson Chinembiri had a misunderstanding with his brother (name withheld) at a Mkoba 14 Night Club where they were drinking. The two engaged in a fierce fight. We are not aware of the finer details that caused the two brothers to fight".
Insp Mahoko said the two brothers were separated by other imbibers and went their separate ways.
Chinembiri left for home soon after.
"When he got home, he took a kitchen knife and told his wife that he wanted to go out and kill someone. The wife tried to restrain him without success," said Insp Mahoko.
The Midlands police spokesperson said the wife then threatened to go and alert the police on what her husband was planning to do.
He said the wife went out and returned 30 minutes later only to find her husband hanging from the roof trusses.
"Chinembiri hanged himself using a five metre electrical cable," said Insp Mahoko.
He said the matter was reported to the police at Nehanda Police Station in Mkoba 19.
Police attended the scene and the body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary.
Chinembiri is survived by his wife and a daughter.
Inspector Mahoko said:
"Investigations surrounding the circumstances of Chinembiri's death are still underway."
