Detectives arrested for stealing $200 000

TWO detectives based in Gwanda have been for allegedly stealing US$200 000 from a gold dealer.
The two detectives were arrested on Monday.
They are still in custody assisting police with investigations.
Police sources said the officers based at Gwanda Police Station were investigating allegations that the victim was illegally dealing in gold.
They picked up the suspect and took him to the station for questioning.
The suspect allegedly left a bag containing the money with a friend as he was being taken to the station.
At the police station the detectives searched the man but did not find gold or money and released him.
On calling his friend, the man learnt the detectives had already sent someone to collect it on his behalf.
The gold dealer made a report to the police leading to the detectives' arrest.
Nothing has been recovered and investigations are underway.
Police declined to comment referring questions to national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba.
Charamba could not be reached for comment
The Police have recently begun enforcing a zero tolerance for corruption attitude in the force.
Hundreds of police officers, especially traffic cops, have been dis missed from the force for being corrupt.
