Gwanda surgery in illegal abortions scam

A surgery located in the sprawling high density suburb of Phakama and owned by Dr. Pugie Chimberengwa, the Gwanda hospitals' medical superintendent has reportedly been involved in a baby abortions involving high school girls.

Bulawayo24 has it in good authority that a woman and her daughter were recently hauled at Gwanda police camp charged with abortion.

The girl who cannot be named because she's is a minor fell pregnant last year while doing her 'O' levels at a local school.

She then opened up to her mother who advised her the pregnancy be terminated as they were afraid the father would reprimand them.

The pair went to Dr Chimberengwa's surgery were the pregnancy was illegal terminated without the knowledge of the girls father.

The abortion was reportedly performed by a state registered nurse.

However the girl's boyfriend who had been informed of the pregnancy reported the matter to the police when the pregnancy disappeared leading to the subsequent arrest of mother and daughter.

However the matter was reportedly swept under the carpet and the two never appeared in court.

The town has experienced a high pregnancy rate amongst girls of school going age.

Last year Gwanda High School headmaster, Arthur Maphosa shocked parents at a prize giving day when he announced ten girls had dropped out of school having fallen pregnant.
