A MAN believed to be in his thirties from Lingwe village under Chief Bidi in Kezi allegedly attempted to commit suicide - by hanging - after claiming people hated him but was timeously stopped by alert villagers.
The man named Abbie, is said to have some physical challenges.
He was seen by villagers on 24 February carrying a rope headed towards the bush, walking in a suspicious manner - gazing about, causing villagers to question his movements.
Abbie lives in Nyembezi area, under headman Dennis Nyathi.
On the said day, villagers accosted him, asked where he was heading to, alone, towards the bush and worse carrying a rope.
After the confrontations, Abbie confessed he wanted to kill himself because he believed no one loved him.
Speaking to Radio Dialogue, Limukani Nkomo one of the villagers who stopped the man from allegedly committing suicide said Abbie appeared emotionally hurt.
"Abbie believed he was a nuisance and people hated him," he said.
Nkomo said villagers told Abbie about the value of life, no matter the hardships one faced in life.
"We pointed out there were many people who wanted to live but could not as they met tragic or unfortunate ends," he said.
Headman Midas Ndebele, who was also present during the day said Abbie needed counselling and support to solve his problems.
"He should not be judged. Everyone goes through some crisis one day or the other but with support they manage affairs well," he said.
