A GWANDA nurse has been arrested on allegations of engaging in unlawful termination of pregnancies.
Moses Chipatiso (31) of Number 21, 6th Avenue in Gwanda Town and is employed at Jahunda Surgery as a State Registered Nurse, appeared before Gwanda magistrate Ms Sheila Nazombe last Friday to answer to a charge of attempting to terminate Beauty Ndimande's pregnancy.
Chipatiso pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to 17 March for trial.
Allegations by the State are that information reached detectives that Chipatiso was involved in the illicit business of terminating pregnancies.
A trap was set by detectives on 11 February with the help of the pregnant Ndimande (28) at Number 407 Spitzkop in Gwanda Town.
According to the court records, Ndimande, whose husband is based in South Africa, had already made an initial payment of $100 to Chipatiso so that he terminates her pregnancy, which he was told was a result of an extra-marital affair.
Before conducting the termination, Chipatiso is said to have demanded to be paid a balance of $70.
Ndimande went to Chipatiso in the company of a female detective whom she introduced as her aunt.
At around 6.40pm, Chipatiso was arrested by detectives while attempting to terminate the pregnancy.
The balance of $70 used to trap Chipatiso was recovered with the equipment that was going to be used to commit the crime.
Mr Pernson Chekeya was representing the State while Chipatiso was represented by Mr Thompson Mabhikwa of Mabhikwa, Hikwa and Nyathi Legal Practitioners.
