IN AN incident that has left tongues wagging, a Gwanda man sneaked his "mistress" into his matrimonial bed while his wife lay asleep beside him forcing the two women to fight over him.

Khulekani Nyathi of Mafuku area in Lushonkwe village brought his girlfriend Blessness Phiri (24) into his bedroom while his wife Busi Sibelo (20) lay in a deep slumber.

This came to light when cousins Phiri and Knowledge Nyathi appeared before Gwanda magistrate Arafat Kozanai on Tuesday facing charges of assaulting Sibelo.

They pleaded not guilty and were remanded out of custody to today for continuation of trial.

Sibelo said on March 10, her husband Khulekani feigned illness when they were about to sleep and continuously went outside the house as if to relieve himself until she fell asleep.

The wife said she woke up to the smell of perfume and was shocked to discover that Phiri was sharing the bed with them.

Sibelo clapped Phiri before she got up and dressed and went away. Five days later, the State alleged Sibelo confronted Phiri who was in the company of Nyathi at Lushonkwe business centre and asked her what she was doing in her bedroom.

The confrontation degenerated into a fight with Phiri assaulting Sibelo with clenched fists several times all over her body.

Nyathi joined in by picking up a brick and striking Sibelo on the head and shoulders resulting in her sustaining a deep cut on the head and lacerations on the shoulders.

Sibelo reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the two cousins. She was treated at hospital where a medical report was complied. In denying the charges, the two said they acted in self-defence after Sibelo and her two aunts had attacked them.

However, Phiri will also appear separately today facing charges of possessing mbanje after she was found with 21 twists of the drug when police arrested her.
