A DRINKING binge ended tragically for a 50-year-old Figtree man who collapsed and died soon after quaffing 750 millilitres of undiluted spirit over the weekend.
The incident occurred at around 7pm at Marula Business Centre in Figtree along the Plumtree-Bulawayo Road on Christmas Eve.
Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe confirmed the incident yesterday.
He said on the fateful day, Never Gova went to Marula Business Centre to drink beer and bought a 750ml bottle of Mainstay.
"He then took it all undiluted and as a result he became unconscious prompting other villagers to rush him to Marula Clinic, where he was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for further monitoring. Unfortunately he died on his way to Bulawayo," he said.
"His body was conveyed to UBH mortuary for post-mortem."
Insp Dzirutwe urged people to be cautious when they take alcohol as it could be hazardous to health or even cause death.
