A BULILIMA man, accused of killing his girlfriend, slept with another woman, tied her up and robbed her in the middle of the night, the court was told.
Jabhisile Sibanda (39) slept with a 41-year-old woman who was employed at a shop in Ndolwane sometime in 2012 and woke up during the night and tied her hands with a rope.
Sibanda then produced a knife and ordered the complainant to hand over all the money she had cashed at the shop.
He stole R2 300 from her.
The complainant, who narrated her ordeal in the hands of the murder suspect, said Sibanda later invaded her home after discovering that she had filed robbery charges against him.
"Sibanda started threatening me soon after I filed charges against him. Although he was on the run he would come to my house and threaten me. I eventually moved to my uncle's house as I feared for my life.
"During my absence he proceeded to my place and stole all my clothes and damaged my huts. From that time he never set his foot on his home as he feared being arrested but he was seen roaming around the village," she said.
Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa sentenced Sibanda to 18 months imprisonment of which six were suspended for five years on condition that he does not within the period commit an offence of the same nature.
Prosecuting, Mr Medica Tshuma said: "On 9 April Sibanda proceeded to the complainant who was staying at Zitha General Dealer and Bottle Store and they spent the night together. The following day he woke up around 3am and stole R2 300 from her and fled the scene."
Sibanda is also facing charges of stabbing his girlfriend, Doubt Nleya (33), to death.
He is suspected to have stabbed her in January after she threw him out of the house after discovering that he had a criminal record of robbery.
Sibanda stabbed Nleya eight times on her body and ripped her stomach open with a kitchen knife in full view of two children aged four and nine.
She sustained two wounds on her stomach, two on her back, two on her left hand, one on her breast and another on her collar bone.
The incident occurred on 19 January around 8am at Mafundi Sibanda's homestead in Ndolwane area.
In his statement in court, Sibanda admitted to killing Nleya but said it was because she owed him money.
He is in custody awaiting a trial date.
