Biti accused of blocking Beitbridge border transformation

Former Finance minister, Tendai Biti turned down a proposal to transform Beitbridge Border Post into a one-stop entry point, a move that was meant to ease congestion.

Foreign Affairs secretary, Joey Bimha told the parliamentary portfolio committee on Foreign Affairs that plans to make Beitbridge a one-stop border were approved and a company to undertake the project contracted before the formation of the inclusive government in February 2009.

Bimha also said the project was likely to be revived now considering that there was now a one-party government unlike the previous inclusive government where political bickering stalled development.
