A 31-year-old self-proclaimed prophet from Nkayi allegedly raped his 13-year-old cousin twice after deceiving his relatives that he could heal her from seizures.
Heremanosi Mutsananguro appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Stephen Ncube on Monday charged with two counts of rape.
The juvenile gave evidence in camera at the Victim Friendly Unit before the matter was moved to an open court where her grandmother also testified.
"He took his cousin on the pretext that he was going to pray for her and heal her from her disease," she said.
Prosecuting, Robin Mukura narrated how on September 13, 2013 around 6PM Mutsananguro approached the juvenile and informed her that he could heal her since she was suffering from fits.
The unsuspecting girl went with him to his place so that he could pray for her.
The court heard how around 6.30PM, Mutsananguro ordered the girl to go to a nearby bush so that he could pray for her. She obliged.
While in the bush, Mutsananguro told the juvenile to lie on the ground and he removed her panties and skirt.
He went on to order the girl to lie facing upwards while promising to heal her so that she would not be affected by seizures anymore, the court heard.
Mutsananguro then undressed and raped the girl once and told her not to tell anyone before they returned to his place. On the same day after having supper around 7PM, the prophet and the girl retired to sleep in the same bedroom hut.
The juvenile slept on the floor while Mutsananguro and his wife slept on the bed.
Mutsananguro later got off from the bed and slept on the floor with the girl and raped her for the second time, the court heard.
After the incident, he went outside and the girl followed him but he instructed her to go back to sleep.
The girl returned to her home on the following day and disclosed the matter to her grandmother who took her to hospital and made a report to the police who arrested Mutsananguro.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to March 28.
