Some unscrupulous police officers have in the past two months had a brush with the law resulting in many citizens losing confidence in the law enforcers.
Bulawayo24 names and shames some of the police officers who have appeared in court for all the wrong reasons. While everyone is innocent until proven guilty, police officers ought to enforce the law and not to be found on the wrong side of it. Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri is therefore urged to tow his officers into the line.
Police officers listed below appeared at the Gwanda magistrate court this week. Lawson Mubaiwa (24) a police officer based in Fairbridge was convicted of corruption and sentenced to an effective two years in prison.Mubaiwa accepted $460 bribe via Ecocash from gold panners who wanted to illegally enter a disused mine without being arrested.Mubaiwa had assured them of their safety but two were struck to death by a truck as they ran away from police.Mubaiwa had assured the panners that he would be among the officers guarding the mine when he was not.
Wilson Mutazwa (32) a police officer based in Guyu who faces stocktheft charges was back in court when his bail together with that of his accomplice Tafadzwa Goremusandu was revoked after they threatened to deal with two police officers who are state witnesses in the case.Ironically Goremusandu's father and wife are police officers residing at Gwanda police camp.The two were remanded to 2 April for continuation of trial.
Emmanuel Ndaba (29) is on trial for theft of a cellphone.He allegedly stole the cellphone from a workmate at the charge at Gwanda police station.Ndaba was this week jailed for ten days for contempt of court after he failed to turn up for trial previously.
