A GUTU woman watched helplessly as her husband took a rope, climbed a tree before committing suicide by hanging following an unknown family dispute, police confirmed yesterday.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said the incident occurred on Monday around 1PM.
She said Nelson Mudita, 29, of Nharira village under Chief Chitsa had a long standing dispute with family members.
"Mudita was at his homestead with his wife Tsungai Mugwini, 27. The man was always stressed and would want to be alone. Without due warning, he stood up from where he was sitting with his wife," said Insp Mazula.
"Armed with a rope which he took from the kitchen hut, he proceeded to a Musumha tree, climbed it and hanged himself."
She said Mugwini tried to stop him from committing suicide but was overpowered and Mudita went ahead and hanged himself with a rope.
Insp Mazula said Mudita's brother rushed to the scene intending to stop him from hanging himself but he was late.
"The brother rushed to the scene and managed to untie Nelson but unfortunately he was already dead. A postmorterm was waived. No foul is suspected," she said.
Insp Mazula advised members of the public to seek help from family members when confronted by problems than to take their lives.
"Members of the public should not resort to taking their lives. They should use the family systems to resolve their differences. People should also learn to share their problems with others," she said.
