Gwanda's engineering department attends to 100 burst sewer pipes every month, Bulawayo24 has learnt.
Town engineer Phakamile Ndebele confirmed the sewer burst during a meeting on service delivery with the residents on Friday.
"We receive 100 reports of burst sewer pipes every month which translates to an average of 25 per week and we attend to those," said Engineer Ndebele.
Residents had raised health concerns over the increase in the number of burst sewer pipes.
Raw sewage has been seen flowing within the central business district raising fears of an outbreak of waterborne diseases.
Ndebele also assured residents that water being supplied into town was safe to drink despite residents concerns that some brownish particles had spotted in the water.
Ndebele said quarterly tests were being carried out to determine the cleanliness of water.
