An Umguza man who duped desperate home-seekers by offering them land at Springs Farm for a fee has landed in court.
Nhlanhla Siwela, 45, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa facing three counts of fraud and was remanded out of custody to April 14.
The court heard that on March 14, Kwanele Dube called Siwela to inquire about the stands she heard he was selling.
Siwela told her the stands cost $35 to demarcate and allocate which Dube paid the following day when the pair met at City Hall.
Dube then went to clear the land at the farm but was stopped by the village head who told her that the land in that area was not to be allocated to anyone.
The court further heard that on March 14, Siwela defrauded Nqobani Ndlovu and Sisa Mhlanga of $35 each using the same ruse.
Mhlanga however, realised she had been defrauded when she met up with the village head who told her she had been defrauded as the allocation of the stands was illegal.
She then reported Siwela to the police leading to his arrest.
