A 38-YEAR-OLD Bulilima man who stabbed his nephew as punishment for attempting to destroy his extra-marital affair, has appeared in court.
Trust Nkomo, 23, of Sikhathini area approached his uncle, Lincoln Ncube and threatened to report him to his wife for having an affair with a neighbour.
Things came to a head on April 9 when during a beer drink, Nkomo attempted to intervene in an altercation between his relative and one Jasper Nleya.
The intervention did not go down well with Ncube who turned on his nephew, accusing him of meddling in his personal issues including the extra-marital affair.
He allegedly hit him with a brick on the head and then stabbed him above the left eye. Ncube appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Livard Philemon facing assault charges.
Prosecuting, Medica Tshuma said: "On 9 April about 10PM Ncube was drinking beer in the company of his nephew, Nkomo. A misunderstanding arose between him and Jasper Nleya. Nkomo told the same court that the accused had assaulted him accusing him of attempting to destroy his extra-marital affair.
The magistrate sentenced Ncube to 18 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit an offence involving violence.
The remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that he performs 420 hours of community service at Sikhathini Clinic.
