A MANGWE woman reportedly allowed her neighbour to rape her mentally challenged daughter in exchange for a 10kg bag of sugar.
The woman, 54, went on to give the rapist blankets for his comfort while raping the complainant.
Hlanganani Sibanda, 40, of Tjingababili Village in Mpoengs area, yesterday appeared before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa facing a charge of rape.
Sibanda allegedly approached the complainant's mother and asked to have sex with the complainant.
He offered to buy the complainant's mother a bag of sugar as payment for sleeping with her daughter and she agreed, the court heard.
Sibanda returned on the same day around 11PM to collect his victim.
The raped girl was sleeping with her aunt on the fateful day and her mother took her away saying she had indicated that she wanted to sleep with her that night. She then handed her over to Sibanda in exchange for the bag of sugar.
The woman allegedly accompanied Sibanda and her daughter to a bushy area and left them there so they could engage in sex.
Prosecuting, Medica Tshuma said the complainant reported the rape to her aunt and told her that her mother had facilitated the rape. She then led the aunt to the place where she was raped and the blankets which they used were still there.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Sibanda's arrest.
He was remanded in custody to May 9.
