40-YEAR-OLD Mangwe man is on the run after he killed his neighbour he suspected of having an affair with his wife by stabbing him 13 times.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Thabani Mkwananzi confirmed the incident that occurred in Bhulu Village, Mpoengs area.
Bekezela Mpofu is reported to have first stabbed his wife, Bekezela Ndlovu, 25, on the left hip after a heated row over the infidelity claims on Sunday last week. He then force-marched her to Nkululeko Sibanda, 30, whom he suspected to be bedding her.
On arrival, without saying a word, Mpofu stabbed Sibanda 13 times on different parts of the body and fled from the scene. Sibanda died hours later.
Sgt Mkwananzi said police were still looking for Mpofu: "We are investigating a case of murder which occurred in Bhulu area on Sunday night. Sibanda was murdered while at his homestead around 10PM and the suspect is on the run," said Sgt Mkwananzi.
He said Sibanda was stabbed twice on the left rib, twice on the chest, once on the neck, five times on the left hand, twice on the right thigh and once on his right knee.
"His sister-in-law who stays at the same homestead heard Sibanda screaming but could not come to his rescue as she was afraid. She had to wait for the return of her husband from church at around 11PM and together they proceeded to Sibanda's bedroom hut.
"They found him lying dead in a pool of blood," said Sgt Mkwananzi.
Ndlovu said on the fateful day her husband accused her of having spent the day with Sibanda yet she had spent the day at her grandparents' homestead.
"He stabbed me on my thigh and then force-marched me to Sibanda's home. We found Sibanda asleep in his bedroom hut in the company of another woman, Flora Sibanda. My husband without saying a word stabbed him several times.
"I together with Flora tried to restrain him but he threatened to stab us," said Ndlovu.
She said thereafter her husband fled from the scene. She said she had to spend the night at her relatives' place as she feared for her life.
