A 35-YEAR-OLD Victoria Falls man was on Friday fined $100 for allegedly assaulting his buddy with a wooden stool and knocking out two front teeth.

Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani found Taurai Hlasera guilty of assaulting Kudakwashe Matarure (40) on April 4.

Before sentencing Hlasera, Rosemani said she had considered Matarure pleaded for a lesser sentence as the two were friends and neighbours and that he (Hlasera) promised to pay for all medical expenses.

Hlasera was given a wholly suspended three-month sentence on condition he compensated Matarure $100 by May 22.

The court heard that on April 4 at Muboyi workshops, Matarure confronted Hlasera at around lunch time asking why he fought people when he was drunk as he had done earlier that afternoon.

Hlasera did not take this chastisement kindly and he picked up a wooden stool and struck Matarure twice on the mouth and several times on the body.

Matarure fell unconscious and was ferried to the hospital where it was discovered that he had lost two front teeth and sustained a deep cut in his lips and also had chest pains.
