A 24-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man told the court that he was engaging in an extra-marital affair because his wife was not satisfying him in bed.

Bongani Nhetekwa appeared before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa facing charges of assaulting his wife, Sphiwe Ndlovu, 28.

Nhetekwa flew into a rage and beat up his wife after she questioned him about his extra-marital affair with their neighbour.

He went on to lock up the complainant in their house to stop her from seeking treatment.

An unapologetic Nhetekwa told the court that men had a right to engage in extra-marital affairs if their wives failed to satisfy them in bed.

"This woman did not have the right to question me on the issue. A man is the head of the family and as such cannot be questioned by his wife.

"Men engage in extra-marital affairs if their wives fail to satisfy them and there is nothing wrong with that," he said.

Allegations against him are that he was confronted by his wife who had found him drinking at a local bar in the company of a woman on April 11.

The two proceeded home and Nhetekwa was infuriated when his wife continued demanding an explanation on his affair with the woman.

He beat her and locked her up in a room in a bid to stop her from seeking treatment or reporting the  assault to the police.

Nhetekwa was fined $100 or in default 30 days in prison.
