A 54-YEAR-OLD woman from Springvale farm on the outskirts of Gweru recently got a thorough hiding from her son in-law after paying a visit to his home and demanding to know the whereabouts of her daughter.
Pained by the beating, the woman, Linden Nkomo, went and reported the matter to her husband who in turn received the same dosage of beating.
The couple later reported the assault incident to the police leading to the arrest of their son-in-law, Samuel Bonyonwe.
Bonyonwe was yesterday arraigned before Gweru magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, facing two counts of assault.
Bonyongwe pleaded not guilty to both counts and was remanded out of custody to May 21.
For the State, Pearson Muringani told the court that on April 13 at around 7AM, Nkomo proceeded to Bonyonwe's homestead to enquire the whereabouts of her daughter.
The questioning irritated Bonyongwe who then started assaulting his mother-in-law with clenched fists and open palms several times before further assaulting her with the back of an axe on the left cheek giving her a toothache.
Nkomo narrated the ordeal to her husband who went to verify the report but found a nasty surprise in store. Bonyonwe turned his attention to his father-in-law and equally gave him the same treatment, assaulting him with fists and booted feet.
The couple immediately lodged a report with the police leading to Bonyongwe's arrest.
The trial will resume on Wednesday next week.
