Zimbabwe security agencies have opened investigations into a helicopter crash in Gwanda, Matabeleland South, a fortnight ago, amid suspicion the chopper was used to smuggle gold from the country into South Africa.

The crash occurred on 5 May within a governnment owned farm, but remained unreported to authorities after the chopper allegedly buried underground to conceal evidence, by two South Africans who survived the accident.

After the crash, workers were chased away in a bid to conceal evidence.

The matter then came to the attention of the security agencies at the weekend following a tip off.
