A MUM of four has dragged her husband to court demanding $2,500 compensation for abandoning her and their children for six years.
The couple allegedly had domestic problems six years ago forcing Victor Mumpande to move out of his matrimonial home leaving his wife Muju Munsaka and their children, a court heard.
Munsaka, age not given, but residing in Chinotimba suburb, told Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani that her husband abandoned her and their four children and moved in with another woman.
She said Mumpande resurfaced recently seeking to rekindle their love and the couple has since reconciled. "My husband left me with four children and married another woman. Now he has come back and wants to continue with the marriage," she said.
"I'm claiming maintenance because he didn't support us for all these six years when I had to struggle to raise school fees for our children."
Mumpande, originally from Binga, works as a hotel chef at Stanley Livingstone Hotel in the resort town.
When he resurfaced, Munsaka rushed to court seeking compensation for her efforts and claimed $2,500.
Mumpande pleaded with the magistrate to beg his wife to reduce the amount saying he was not earning much and could not afford to pay her $2,500.
"Could she reduce the amount because I earn only $228 per month and I can pay her installments of $30 per month since we are back together and we are now living as a family," he said.
He added, "I gave her $90 two months ago and last month I gave her $100. Yes I understand she is claiming money for neglecting her but I can't pay that much as I earn very little."
Munsaka maintained he should pay her and the children saying, "He's not even supporting us so he should pay".
In the end, the couple agreed that Mumpande pays $1,300 to be paid in installments of $100 per month starting this month and the magistrate consented.
