A 36-YEAR-OLD woman from Sovelele in the Sandawana area on the border between Mberengwa and Masvingo province was mauled to death by crocodiles during a fishing expedition at Mwenezi River.
Janet Sikhosana had been reported missing last week and her body was found on the river bank on Tuesday.
According to Sikhosana's uncle Esau Hove, the woman had gone fishing in the crocodile infested Mwenezi River with other villagers from the Sovelele resettlement ranch when she was attacked. Hove said they were informed that a crocodile had ambushed Sikhosana and dragged her into the river while she was fishing.
Her friends attempted to save her, but their efforts failed as the crocodile dragged Sikhosana into the deeper waters of the river.
"Her corpse was found with some body parts missing along the river bank about 3km away from where she was attacked. It is very puzzling that women continue to go fishing alone in such a crocodile-infested river," Hove said.
The police said Sikhosana's body was taken to Masvingo Hospital for a post mortem to be conducted.
Earlier this year, another woman survived a crocodile attack along the Mwenezi River near Sandawana while collecting reeds for weaving mats.
