A 30-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man tied his wife to a tree before assaulting her with a whip after accusing her of infidelity.
Thulani Moyo appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa, for assaulting his wife, Angeline Ndlovu, 24.
Prosecuting, Jane Phiri said Moyo accused his wife, a hairdresser at a local saloon, of having an affair with a fellow workmate.
"On June 5, Moyo went to collect his wife at her parents' place where she had gone after a misunderstanding.
On their way to their house, he started accusing his wife of having an extra marital affair," said Phiri.
"He picked up a log and hit her several times on her body.
"Moyo then retrieved a rope from the house and used it to tie his wife onto a tree and he started whipping her."
She, however, managed to untie herself and fled from the house.
Moyo pleaded for the court's leniency saying he loved his wife and that jealousy prompted him to beat her up.
He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which six months were conditionally suspended.
