A 38-YEAR-OLD Mangwe woman survived a knife attack by her husband for allegedly sneaking out at night to see a local headmaster while her man was at a neighbour's homestead watching a World Cup game.
Vincent Ncube (42) allegedly found his wife, Sithandazile Ndebele, with the headmaster of Kwenenge Primary School in Ingwizi area, Mr Lancelot Moyo.
Ncube, a neighbourhood watch committee member, stabbed his wife on the forehead.
Speaking during his trial in Plumtree, Ncube said he followed his wife's footprints to the headmaster's house after he could not find her at their homestead.
"I arrived home after watching a World Cup match at a neighbour's house. I found my children alone and they told me that my wife had gone to her cousin's house. I went after her only to find her at the headmaster's house.
"I peeped through the window and I saw her inside. I confronted her and she ran away going home and that was when I beat her up. She later confessed that she and the headmaster were having an affair. She told me that they met while she was selling vegetables," he said.
"My wife is a loose woman and that I know because she got impregnated by our neighbour while I was away in South Africa. She gave birth prematurely and she buried the child without my knowledge. The last born child that we have is not even mine because she had him with my nephew."
Prosecuting, Ms Jane Phiri told how Ncube stabbed his wife on 1 July.
"The complainant had a misunderstanding with her husband who was accusing her of having an extramarital affair. Ncube then assaulted his wife with a knobkerrie and stabbed her once on the forehead with a knife," she said.
Ncube then dragged his wife by the arm into a bushy area where he wanted to chop her with an axe. Neighbours came to her rescue. They restrained the accused person. He was arrested immediately.
The complainant, however, denied having an affair with the headmaster.
"My husband is falsely accusing me. No one has ever seen me in the headmaster's house. He is just a violent man, at one time he almost beat our 19-year-old son to death after he lost our two dogs. This incident has brought me a great deal of humiliation because he dragged me in the neighbourhood telling everyone that I was sleeping with the headmaster," she said.
Ncube appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa facing charges of assault. He was remanded in custody to 14 July.
