A VICTORIA FALLS woman yesterday appeared in court for assault after striking her husband on the head with a brick.
Joice Siphiwe Mlauzi (39) of Mkhosana high-density suburb was convicted on her own plea of guilty when she appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani and was handed a five-week prison sentence that was wholly suspended for 70 hours of community service at Zimbabwe Republic Police Pre-school.
For the State, David Tivakudze told the court that on June 1 at around 9pm, Mlauzi phoned her husband Hloniphani Sibanda (32) asking him to pick her up from Moringa bar where she was drinking alcohol. Sibanda found Mlauzi drunk and he told her to go home, but she was having none of it.
Mlauzi dragged Sibanda outside the bar and started biting his right arm before picking up a brick and hitting his head with it.
Sibanda fell down and when he got up, Mlauzi allegedly struck him again and he sustained a deep cut in the head.
Mlauzi told the court that she was too drunk and was not aware of what she was doing.
"I had taken about 15 pints of beer and I cannot remember what the argument was about. I heard the following morning when I saw that he was injured and that I was the one who had caused the injuries," Mlauzi said.
