A 26-year-old woman lost her little finger and could have the remaining part amputated after a drinking female partner bit her in a pub fight.
Ennifer Lipoka, of Chinotimba Township and Chipo Mwanza, 28 from the same suburb had spent last Sunday drinking beer at Zambezi Camp and then started fighting over Mwanza's missing cellphone.
In the ensuing argument, the two drunken women engaged in a fist fight resulting in each of them biting the other. Mwanza bit Lipoka on her right hand small finger while Lipoka sunk her teeth on the Mwanza's shoulder and forefinger.
The duo was yesterday charged with disorderly conduct. "I gave her my phone and when I asked for it she told me she didn't have it. I bit her nail off during a fight," said Mwanza.
In her own defence, Lipoka denied taking the phone adding that her friend was too drunk to identify who she gave her phone.
"We had finished watching a soccer match and she got into a car. When she came back she was vomiting and accusing everyone of taking her phone and that is when she started saying she had given it to me. After she bit me, I also bit her on the shoulder because I was in pain," said Lipoka, who is also a peer educator in Victoria Falls.
"I was seriously injured and I am supposed to go for an X-ray and doctors say my whole finger might be amputated," said Lipoka.
Mwanza begged for the court's mercy for biting her friend's finger saying she was upset because she had lost her phone. Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani convicted the two on their own pleas of guilty.
Mwanza was sentenced to 10 months in jail which was wholly suspended on condition that she compensates Lipoka $100 for medical expenses she incurred.
She has to pay the money before August 8 while Lipoka was fined $20 or two weeks in jail if she defaults.
