A FILABUSI man who raped and indecently assaulted two juvenile sisters before sodomising their four-year-old cousin has been sentenced to 22 years imprisonment.
Connellious Ndlovu (27), of stand number 412 Bekezela Township, had pleaded not guilty to the three counts but Gwanda regional magistrate, Mr Joseph Mabeza, convicted him and was slapped with a 10-year jail term for rape, two years for indecent assault and another 10 years for aggravated indecent assault.
Initially, Ndlovu was charged for raping the two girls aged four and six but a medical report showed that no penetration took place in one of the girls.
However, Mr Mabeza ordered that the 10-year sentences would be served concurrently meaning that Ndlovu will serve an effective 12-year jail term.
In mitigation, Ndlovu pleaded for leniency saying that his child needed him for support.
"My child will have no one to support him as his mother is not employed and his grandmother who used to assist is now late. Your Worship, be lenient with me because I am also an orphan," he said.
In passing the sentence, Mr Mabeza said he had considered all that Ndlovu said in mitigation.
Giving their evidence in court, the young complainants revealed that Ndlovu made them caress and kiss his manhood before sexually abusing them.
He gave them money to lure them but later took it back after committing the offences on 1 March this year around 5pm.
Ndlovu sexually abused the juveniles one after the other at a house that is still under construction.
The matter came to light when the boy complained of anal pains while he was being bathed by his mother and revealed that Ndlovu had inserted his manhood into his anus.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Ndlovu's arrest.
Mr Johannes Tlou prosecuted.
