TWO soccer fans died on the spot yesterday while another two were seriously injured 30km from Victoria Falls on the Bulawayo Highway after the driver of a truck they were travelling in lost control and hit trees.
The vehicle rolled twice at the Sidobe turnoff.
It is suspected the driver was speeding.
Sources said the victims were fans of Jengwe soccer team, which was due to play in Sidobe.
"We suspect that the accident was caused by speeding," said an eyewitness.
"The driver could also have been drinking because there were beer bottles at the scene. When the police and an ambulance crew arrived, two people had already died - a female adult and a young girl.
"There were also two boys and a girl who were unconscious and bleeding profusely from the mouth and nose.
"The rest, including the truck driver, sustained broken limbs and were all ferried to the hospital."
Police also confirmed the accident, but could not comment as they were still investigating.
