3 cops die in road accident

Three police officers and a civilian, travelling to Gweru, died on Wednesday evening when their car collided with a haulage truck, killing them all on the spot, police have said.

National police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the fatal accident happened after a truck encroached on the lane of the now deceased's vehicle.

"As police, we are worried by the number of accidents in our country involving haulage trucks. It is sad that lives are being lost in these accidents, especially in the last three weeks," he said.

"We plead with truck drivers to travel during the day as we are noticing that they are being involved in most of these accidents," he said.

According to the police, this is the third accident in the last three weeks to happen involving a truck, with one having claimed over13 lives along the Harare-Nyamapanda road.
