A MAN from Bambanani village in the Insiza district of Matabeleland South allegedly teamed up with his aunt and younger sister to assault a police officer during a fight over a sex worker.
Freddy Ndlovu appeared at the Bulawayo Magistrates' Court yesterday facing charges of stabbing a police officer Justice Chakanetsa twice in the back. Magistrate Nyasha Kuture postponed the matter to September 16 for a ruling.
Chakanetsa told the court that Ndlovu had attacked him and villagers were defending him because there was once a Chakanetsa, who brutalised people in the same village.
"The only thing is that I am being hated in this village due to the sins that another Chakanetsa committed long back," Chakanetsa said.
Ndlovu denied stabbing the cop saying he only pushed Chakanetsa, who then fell on a broken bottle.
Ndlovu said he had pushed Chakanetsa in self-defence as the cop wanted to stab him.
According to the State's outline, Ndlovu and Chakanetsa were fighting over a prostitute that had allegedly been organised for the former by his sister Selusiwe Moyo during a party thrown by Ndux Malax (Jr)'s band at Bambanani bar.
It was alleged that for Ndlovu to allow Moyo to drink alcohol, she had to organise a sex worker for him.
Moyo was said to have organised a sex worker that had already been booked and paid for by Chakanetsa.
Realising that the sex worker was now all over Ndlovu, Chakanetsa allegedly attacked him with fists and hit his head against a log.
Ndlovu's aunt and Moyo teamed up with and attacked Chakanetsa.
"When I saw Chakanetsa holding my nephew's neck, I was left with no choice, but to try and rescue him from the attack," Ndlovu's aunt said.
"It was never anyone's intention to hurt the cop, but he is the one who tried to attack Ndlovu with a broken bottle which he then fell on after we pushed him down."
