A BULILIMA woman allegedly helped her husband to rape their 10-year-old niece who was living with them, in a bid to satisfy her husband's sexual desires, a court has heard.
Melody Moyo (22) guarded the juvenile with a log and threatened to beat her up if she alerted their neighbours while her husband, Kwanisani Dube (35), forced himself on the child.
Moyo is alleged to have offered her niece to her husband in a bid to save her marriage after he had threatened to marry a second wife as his wife no longer satisfied him.
As a remedy for her problems, Moyo then suggested that Dube have sex with the juvenile and offered to assist him.
The pair, who live in Madlambuzi area, appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Gideon Ruvetsa, facing a rape charge.
Prosecuting, Mr Stanley Chinyanganya told how Dube and his wife carried out the alleged rape in December last year.
The juvenile remained quiet about what had transpired until recently when she developed a sexually transmitted disease and was questioned by health personnel.
"On a date unknown but during the month of December last year, Moyo called her 10-year-old niece into her bedroom at around 8pm. The complainant was living with her aunt and uncle at their homestead.
"The juvenile walked in and found her uncle undressed and her aunt ordered her to remove her clothes and have sex with him. The girl refused and attempted to run away but Dube caught up with her. He removed her clothes and raped her once while her aunt stood by," said Mr Chinyanganya.
The court heard that the juvenile attempted to scream for help and even pleaded with her aunt to help her but Moyo threatened to beat her up with a log if she alerted their neighbours.
Moyo stood guard to ensure that her niece did not escape. After completing their evil act, she warned her niece against reporting the matter stating that she would kill her by throwing her into a river.
The juvenile remained quiet about the issue until she fell ill after suffering from an STI.
She was taken to Madlambuzi Clinic where she was questioned by nurses. That is when she revealed that her uncle had raped her resulting in the accused person's arrest.
Moyo and Dube were remanded in custody to 12 September.
