A WOMAN from Petani area in Nkayi in Matabeleland North province died under mysterious circumstances in her bedroom hut on Friday last week.
According to reports the late, Sihle Moyo, was supposed to tie the knot the following day with Njabulo Ndlovu of Matshena area in Nkayi.
However, aunt to the deceased, Sazini Sibanda said the postmortem report revealed that Sihle died of severe bleeding.
Sibanda narrated the bizarre incident that left both Sihle and Njabulo's families shocked saying: "When I went to Sihle's bedroom early in the morning on Friday last week, I found her dead while a dead chameleon was stuck to her nostrils. The chameleon had drained blood from her body through her nostrils. Some family members are accusing the Ndlovu family of bewitching Sihle. I heard that they do not want Sihle to be married to their family because they got wind that whenever she gets married the husband dies," she said.
Sibanda said members from the Moyo family agreed to seek the services of a witch- hunter.
"We agreed as a family to call a witch- hunter so that we get to know what led to Sihle's death."
Contacted for a comment, a spokesperson from Ndlovu's family, Mkhutshwa Tshuma, dismissed the accusations as "unfounded".
"I do not believe what is being peddled against our family by those people. No one could have sent a chameleon to them, for your own information, there is no history of witchcraft in our family. Take it from me, whoever is saying that is trying to put the name of our family into disrepute," said Tshuma.
In a bid to quell the seemingly hot-tempered situation, Tshuma said they have reported the matter to the police.
"We have reported the matter to the police. We want the truth to come out. We believe the police will restore order," said Tshuma.
Efforts to get a comment from Matabeleland North provincial spokesperson, Siphiwe Makonese were fruitless.
