TWO brothers were yesterday arraigned before the Victoria Falls Magistrates' Court facing allegations of raping and impregnating their physically handicapped sister.
The 36-year-old and his 15-year-old younger brother of Breakfast Village 1 in Matesti under Chief Shana appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani and pleaded not guilty to charges of rape.
The two brothers were denied bail for fear that they would either abscond, interfere with witnesses and evidence or continue abusing their sister. For the State, David Tivakudze told the court that between April and May this year, the two brothers sexually abused their 34-year-old sister.
The abuse came to light in May when the older brother woke up one night and left his wife in the bedroom to rape his sister. It was alleged that his wife followed to investigate when her husband took long to return and found him sleeping with his sister.
The matter was not reported to the police, but was settled at family level.
The juvenile was also found undressed in his sister's bedroom and could not explain what he was doing.
The matter was reported to the police early this month after their parents discovered that the physically-challenged sister was pregnant and she revealed that her brothers were responsible, leading to the arrest of the two.
Pregnancy tests conducted on Monday revealed that she was 18 weeks pregnant. She further revealed that she was raped on several occasions at night, but could not report as they threatened to kill her.
The wife of the elder brother revealed that he used to leave their bedroom for extended periods on several occasions at night, but she did not suspect that he was sexually abusing his sister.
The trial continues on September 23.
