A 63-YEAR-OLD Gokwe man died after being allegedly assaulted by family members in a dispute over food aid distributed by a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
Stanlaus Dube from Chikwenhere village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North died after being allegedly assaulted by Gerald Martin Mugomeri, Kezias Mugomeri, Andrew Chananavara and Simbisai Chananavara.
The four appeared before judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo sitting at the Gweru High Court circuit yesterday.
Prosecutor Tafadzwa Mpariwa told the court that on October 16 2008 and at around 10am, the four and Dube were at Mudondo Primary School awaiting food aid distribution by Concern World Wide.
During the meeting, one Norman Moyo inquired from the NGO officials whether Dube and two other village's would receive food since they had a dispute while registering for the aid.
They were informed that food was going to be distributed, but only after their differences had been resolved by the Gokwe district administrator.
After the meeting, Dube's sons confronted Moyo and demanded to know why he had raised the issue and allegedly started assaulting him with open hands.
The accused joined the quarrel and allegedly started assaulting the Dube family members.
Dube and some family members fled from the scene. The accused gave chase and Kezias allegedly struck Dube with a log on the head and he fell to the ground.
His brother Martin allegedly struck Dube twice with an axe on the head while Andrew and Simbisai stoned him.
Dube died before he could get medical help.
The trial continues today.
