Zimbabwe's exporting companies have endorsed a proposed government policy crafted to allow the refurbishment of border posts to ease congestion and increase trade volumes.

The government has identified private sector players that will provide technical and capital expertise in the refurbishment of border posts in Zimbabwe.

Representatives of exporting companies told the ZBC News on Friday that the renovation of border posts is important in facilitating increased business activities.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Acting Commissioner General, Mr Robert Mangwiro says the renovation of border posts will benefit exporters as the plan will reduce the duration of customs clearing procedures.

"We are committed to that and we shall continue to focus on its success," said Mr Mangwiro.

Zimbabwe has 15 ports of entry.

Beitbridge Border Post is the busiest inland port of entry in Sub-Saharan Africa which handles more than 3 500 vehicles and 9 000 people crossing daily.

The numbers soar to 20 000 during peak periods.
