A GUN-TOTING homeless man caused terror in Gweru after waving a gun at passersby.
Panic-stricken residents called police shortly after 8AM on Monday to report an armed man in a wooded area near Gweru River.
Officers raced to the scene and arrested Benjamin Sibanda, 18, but could not locate the gun. Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga yesterday heard that after questioning, Sibanda led detectives to a spot where he had buried the gun.
Investigators dug up a Revolver Ross 38 wrapped in a woollen jersey and charged Sibanda for possessing a firearm without a licence.
Sibanda told Taruvinga he had "no intention of using the gun as evidenced by the fact that I kept it hidden underground."
He pleaded guilty at the Gweru Magistrates' Court yesterday and he will be sentenced today.
