In an effort to address economic challenges affecting the Matabeleland region, Zanu-PF leaders claims to have established five standing committees which are expected to investigate sector areas and recommend appropriate developmental solutions to the problems.
The committees were established at Matabeleland Joint Regional Development Indaba held at Elangeni Training Centre in Bulawayo, which was convened by Vice President, John Landa Nkomo.
Briefing journalists at the end of the second indaba, Mines and Mining Development Minister, Obert Mpofu, said Zanu-PF leaders in Matabeleland have acknowledged the concerns of underdevelopment of the region that was raised by people, hence the formation of the standing committee.
The committees comprise of Economic Affairs Committee, headed by Mpofu; Education Affairs, headed by Sikhanyiso Ndlovu; Health and Social Welfare by Abigail Dhamasane, Water Affairs headed by Judith Ncube and Infrastructural Development Committee, which is chaired by Faith Mpofu.
Mpofu said the committees are expected to engage relevant stakeholders and deliberate on challenges and come up with recommendations that would be adopted before being forwarded to government.
He added that the main objective of the Indaba was to harmonise development programmes and adopt a coordinated approach to sustainable development.
